The best jerk chicken I have ever had. The cabbage, rice and beans, and plantains were perfectly cooked. Only complaint was that the inside was humid so it was hard to sit and eat with the humidity inside, but it was totally worth it!

Best Jamaican food!!!!!! So glad I found this gem!

When I first started going to this place, everything was amazing. Now it seems like they cook Zatarains and they ALWAYS run out of chicken. That is very disappointing! They should step their game back up. They would do great as a business if so.

I've been going to Ya Mon since they opened. A few times I would order food from another Jamaican restaurant and I must say, they are consistently good! Every time I've ordered from them, the food is always good, the amount is always the same, and the prices are always the same unlike other Jamaican restaurants in the area.

Tremendous value for money, delicious food, welcoming people. Counter service, and the for-here area is a separate counter with stools; take-out is the big draw.

The food was good I had the jerk catfish which was really spicy but still good and the jerk chicken which was very flavorful.

Their Jerk chicken is very dry. Wasted my good money on this less than desirable food. It was just ok. What bothers me is that I could have went to Kingston's down the street. I should have known better. Kingston's does it better. Way better.

The best Jamaican food I've ever had. The jerk chicken meat was juicy and tender. The ox tails meat fell right off the bones. The only thing I recommend is to call your order in. Will be back soon!!!!

Excellent food! Excellent service! Ya mon! Will definitely be back!

The food was alright....nothing to drool over...I ordered the jerk chicken which was ok...my friends got the jerk catfish that they loved.

My favorite jerk place! Peas and rice and plantains are divine. Love the chicken.

Absolute best jerk chicken anywhere. I drive right past Kingston Jerk Chicken on may to Ya Mon, because nothing comes close to this place! All their ingredients are fresh, including the allspice berries and thyme! The same 2 people are always working, and they always greet me with a smile and serve up orders as quickly as they come out. The seasoning is perfect, the chicken is very juicy, the skin is crispy, and it comes with a side of very hot jerk sauce. The cabbage is seasoned with thyme and allspice as well some other seasonings I can't quite figure out, but it's delicious! The lunch special is a steal at $7 for 3 pieces of white meat, rice & beans, a plantain, cabbage and bread. I'm never able to finish it. The pricing is plain as day on the menu, including for the side items. One time I went and they were out of white meat. How do they run out of white meat? Because proper jerk chicken is marinated for about a day, and if they run out, they run out. I'd prefer that to them slapping some seasoning on a chicken, cooking it, and passing it off as the authentic dish! It would be like going to a bbq place that cooked a brisket in the oven and slathered on some sauce to save time! Heresy!

Love It! I have been eating my Jerk Chicken/Fish for the last couple of years. It has never disappointed us. My husband gets the Chicken, with an extra sauce and OMG....It always hot and enough for two people or left overs for the next day. The fish, nice and spicey...and again some to take to lunch the next day.

Delicious! The owners are as wonderful as the food. If you haven't been, you must try it. We've had the oxtail, chicken and fish - all incredible.

The service here is great. Sadly, the food doesn't mirror the service. We ordered 2 jerk dinners. I'm not sure what happened to the jerk part, but what we got was simple grilled chicken (as you can clearly see from the pictures), that I could have easily gotten my dad to do. The flavor of the chicken was really good though. The thing that got these guys added to my black list is they think Americans are too stupid to not know the difference between jamaican rice and peas and ZATARINS red beans and rice! Unforgivable! There was also parmesean cheese sprinkled on my cabbage but why? Who told you people that- that was good?I can make Zatarins and grilled chicken in the comfort of my own home. I really don't understand these reviews at all.

Very good authentic jamaican food. The owners are very nice and they remember your name and face. They have some of the best jerk chicken I have had...

Son...this is the best Jamaican Food joint out in the south suburbs. The owner and his wife are so nice I just wanna put em in my pocket. I recommend the jerked catfish dinner. TRUST ME it's so worth it. Get a ting while you're at it. And a beef patty cause lawdd those beef patties be so good. And those plantains...Jesus blessed those Himself cause they are everything. My family has been faithful costumers since they came to CCH so it's been a minute lol

I decided to try Ya Mon because I didn't want to drive to the south side of Chicago to buy jerk chicken from my favorite Jamaican fast food restaurant. I regretted that I didn't. The chicken was dry. I was given a tiny one ounce container of jerk sauce for a half of chicken!!!! How am I supposed to spread once ounce of sauce on a half of a chicken! Just call it what it is...baked chicken with a side of sauce...not jerk chicken. The plantain was really good...but it shouldn't be the star of the meal. Sadly, it was. My daughter ordered half mixed jerk chicken. She said hers was salty. Mine wasn't. Her chicken was also dry. Also, they only accept cash! I didn't have any on me so I had to find the nearest cash station. Which was a hassle! No Mon, I will not return to Ya Mon again. I'd rather grill my own chicken and jerk it myself before buying from them again. I gave it three stars instead of two because the food was edible and I did eat it. I was hungry.

This place is great. I always order the curried goat, the BEST! Great service and friendly owners!

Great food. I wish they would change the sauce that comes with the jerk though. Other than that...my favorite spot in the south suburbs for Jamaican.
(4)Patrick J.
Great food. I always get the dark chicken pieces the white chicken parts seem to be on the dry side. I would say this is the best jerk carry out restaurant in the south suburbs. Cash only

This is a very nice authentic Jamaican restaurant. Restroom is clean. Nice environment. It felt like home. The food is good. However my concern is that the beverages sold there such as the sodas are Jamaican brands, yet they were made in Canada? Not sure what was up with that but i am guessing it is better to export things from Canada to the USA than to export directly from Jamaica. Anyway it was all good. Love it. Love it.

Ya, mon, another day, another Jamaican restaurant. Instead of my usual jerk chicken I tried the brown stew chicken lunch special. This is essentially fall-off-the bone chicken in a (surprise) brown gravy. This was served over a bed of beans and rice. A piece of plaintain and some cabbage was included. This is the first time I've had brown stew chicken and it was very good. The side of cabbage was a little bland but balances the flavors of the chicken. There are no tables but there are some stools and a countertop facing the window. They do not take credit cards.

I could have sworn I had already yelped the praises of Ya Mon! But as I perused through the reviews I saw a bunch of negatives and something about parmesan cheese and Zatarains?!?! This does NOT sound like Ya Mon. Allow me to set it straight! And I have been going there faithfully for about the last two years getting jerk chicken and jerk catfish dinners. And it is always phe-nom-e-nal!! Huge portions of meat, rice and beans. The dinners are easily enough for 2. But even if the portions were smaller (pls don't make them smaller) I would still gladly patronize this place. I don't know, maybe they have had off days with other people, but never with me. On to the food... The meat is always grilled to juicy perfection with some amazing blend of herbs and spices. I'm not a cook or chef so I can't really explain the flavors. But, it doesn't taste like even the best "American" grilled chicken I've ever had. And I know some awesome grillers (SO to my Dad and bro)! I've had jerk chicken from other places and the recipes vary somewhat - so maybe some reviewers have their own recipe expectations? But to me, their version, which is full of flavor, texture and color is the best! It reminds me of a couple of other great places - Uncle Joes and Kingston Jerk - but I like Ya Mon best. Ya Mon's seems to up them on freshness and juiciness just a tad. The rice and peas taste like they have been stewing for at least a day - so flavorful. The stewed cabbage is perfect, just slightly past crunchy, not salty - perfect. And never a dry, bland or mushy plaintain have I had from them! The service is always appreciative, professional and with a smile. Order your food ahead if you don't like waiting at least 20 minutes on a weekend evening. And, yes, they sometimes run out of stuff. But, there is a good reason for that! They make GREAT FOOD!

Great authentic Jamaican food. Order is ready when you arrive or within a few minutes. Small counter to eat if needed, but its not the best set-up. Owners are nice and welcoming couple.

A friend of mine had a taste for Jamaican cuisine so we decided to try Ya Mon. First - when we walked in, people looked disgusted. I soon learned why when I looked behind the counter to see no less than nine orders stacked in Styrofoam containers on the counter behind the only cashier. She had absolutely no sense of urgency in dispensing the orders as she announced to an ordering patron that they were out of white meat. That dashed my wish for Brown Stew Chicken as well as a "plan B" order of Jerk since I don't like dark meat. I decided to get some beef or veggie patties and rice and peas. The woman informed me that she didn't have any patties and that they don't sell sides by themselves. My expression prompted her to ask the men in the kitchen if they would allow me to buy a large side order of rice & peas. The man glared through the door at me for an instant and said something indistinguishable. She told me, "No, sorry." I laughed in her face and left. While I enjoy many Jamaican dishes, I decided to eat "mainstream" and order chicken, a STAPLE menu purchase, to see if I liked their food. But to refuse to sell me a side item, considering they didn't have TWO main menu items that I'd wanted, was just unbelievable. If a hamburger place ran out of burgers, would they refuse the chance to sell you some fries, SOMETHING? That's utterly ridiculous. I'll NEVER patronize that place again.
